McMaster Baja Racing Design

Suspension Design

Joined my schools McMaster Baja Racing team in September 2024. Designing and improving suspension for off-road one person vehicle. Taking on role in team as suspension design member.

Not the full team, but a good photo of a lot of great mentors and peers.

Prototype Fenders

Main exploration / innovation project was to design fenders for the car. Inspired by the Ariel Nomad, this would be the first iteration of operational fenders on this car.

As seen on the front and rear wheel wells, the cover piece follows the tire diameter closely.

First, evaluate and sketch out 4 ideas:

(Slides below reference working document during the prototyping stage of the fenders, reviewed in weekly suspension meetings.)

Solution 1: A-Arm Mounting

Solution 2: Upright / Knuckle Mounting

Solution 3: Outer Wheel Cover

Solution 4: Outer Wheel Cover

Finalized design matrix: Conclusion is design idea #1, A-arm mounting.

Delving deeper into A-arm Mounted Fenders through working slides, sketches, iterations, and continuous iteration.

The blue circles on the right image show initial planned 3D-printed mounting positions, which were eventually switched to a planned welded design. Cotter pin idea no longer existed after committing to the more simple weld solution.
